It’s best to provide a template when ordering a replacement hair system for your client. How do you create a toupee template? Let us show you.

First, you’ll need scissors, clear tape, transparent tape and a marker pen. We’ll now walk you through the entire process step-by-step.

1. Make sure you clean the customer’s hair so it has a smooth surface. Place a large piece of plastic wrap on the customer’s head. You should press down evenly and firmly to ensure that the plastic wrap doesn’t sag or move.

2. You can trace the bottom of your wrap using a marker pen. You can also trace the original hairline at your front. You should create a smooth outline all the way around your head.

Tips – To ensure that the hair system is placed in the best way possible for natural-looking hairlines, place four fingers horizontally at the top of each customer’s eyebrow. Then place a dot over the index finger.

3. Start at the front with the tape and work your way around the scalp, laying the tape one by one. The tape must be completely covered by each piece. To ensure that the template is strong enough, apply three to four layers of tape from the left to the right and back to cover the entire template.

4. A customer may require a parting or a crown. Mark the pivot point of the original growth to mark the location. Draw a line starting at the back of your crown and ending at the front. Note the name of the customer and add a ‘F’ to the front and a “B” for the back.

Tips: The direction of the hair is represented by the parting line. This will give your hair system a natural look.

5. Take the outline and cut it along with the excess wrap. To ensure that the template fits properly, place it on the customer’s head.You now have the perfect toupee template. Contact us  if you have any questions. We are always available to assist you.
